My role as a field researcher in a technical field means that I collect data and usually have to present it in complicated tables and graphs to other scientific colleagues. I was having a difficult time when I was asked to present my current work at a conference via a PowerPoint to non-technical people who had little understanding of my specific topic. I sent off my draft to Paper Lions, and my text was transferred from technical jargon into everyday language, yet the meaning was still evident. I was comfortable using those words. Paper Lions, thanks for the assistance.
I began my new role as university lecturer this year and I was asked to provide an introductory piece of writing about myself, my interests and my studies for the newsletter at the institution. I had previously worked with Paper Lions when I had to submit a science journal article, so I quickly uploaded some ideas via the website, mentioning the deadline. The article was short and sweet, with better adjectives than I usually use, as I am accustomed to writing about scientific subjects. It is so hard to write about yourself!
Paper Lions Australia assisted me when I required editing support for my current Operations Manual in use at my educational tuition company. My aim was to have the manual ready for use by franchisees. All of the information was in my head, but I couldn’t get it down on paper. Over a five-month period, I had numerous meetings to discuss the process and the end result was a user-friendly manual that logically set out the steps to running a tuition company successfully. Couldn’t have done it without your help.
When I left high school, I didn’t get into uni like my friends did, so I got a job in the building trade for three years. Then I decided to fill in the online application to be a mature-age student studying construction at Deakin University. The process is different to when you are a school leaver. As well as entering my Year 12 results, I had to fill in a personal statement, and I had no idea how to do that. I registered on Paper Lions, and within six hours, I had an email in my inbox with a reasonable quote to have the work I had already started reviewed and improved. It was great to have someone professional look over my work and give recommendations for the sole purpose of the personal statement. I still wanted it to sound like I had written it, not having stilted words that I wouldn’t use. I got into my course in the next round. Very happy.
As a tradesman, I was shocked when I investigated the process to apply for the Master Builders Association of Victoria. I knew how to be a bathroom renovator, but the amount and type of paperwork involved put me off from going ahead and applying. Then I sent a request for assistance to Paper Lions, and over a three-month period, I received the help that I needed to accurately fill in the documentation. There were complex design pictures to be created and then inserted into Word documents. Much appreciated, Paper Lions!
I was initially unsuccessful when I started submitting online applications for Integration Aide vacancies in Victorian government schools until I sent my documents to Paper Lions. I grew up with English as my second language, so I felt that I needed a proofreader. I could easily communicate verbally, but my written work wasn’t very professional. Once I received my document draft, I changed the file according to the recommendations sent and let the Paper Lions Australia proofreader know that the work was now suitable. The proofreader had made recommendations that improved my work and also communicated to me why those changes needed to be made. I received phone calls soon after with three schools offering interviews for Integration Aide positions. Thank you for your help.
